Energize

Yesterday we had Energize with Whaea Gina. We were learning about healthy foods. Here are some labels of foods we were learning  about; Dairy, Grains, Vegetables, Fruits Protein,  and Calcium. All of these make you healthy in some way. Like calcium. It makes your bones stronger. Here are some of the food groups in a photo all together on this link.
And have a look closely to see what makes you healthier and what you should eat more often.

Hope you learnt something from this blog post and from the DLO?

Tessellation

Yesterday one of my favorite teachers came into my class. He showed as some pitchers of a talented pictures that can be tessellated. We were learning about tessellations. If you don't know what a tessellation is it is something that never overlaps or it never has a gap.

Here is a photo of me making my second one. LINK

Sizing up

 Sizing up
In Te Ngahere  we have been doing maths. The math that we had  to do was sizing shapes up.
We were learning to trace a couple of shapes and count how many boxes were in the shapes to measure how big the shapes were. What I mean by measuring is, length and width to work out the area of the shape.

I felt good learning  this because it helped me learn about area. Hope you enjoyed reading my blog post.

The Special pump track

 The special pump track
In the first week we have been  writing on Google Docs about something special and the teachers picked what we first had to write about and that was the pump track. What we were learning to do was  to use passive voice and present tense. I think I used passive voice because I didn’t really see ‘I, am, we.’

What I could do better next time is to use more present tense in my writing.
For example, ‘I liked Fortnite but now I like Roblox and Minecraft.’
I hope you enjoy reading my writing and can I please have some feedback. Writing link

Free standing Newspaper Towers

In the first week we have been making newspaper towers for our steam challenge.
We were learning that the base has to be bigger so the tower could free stand freely. We had to use two pieces of newspaper and one 30 cm piece of tape.

What I could do better next time is to try to think of better ideas. When it was time to see how tall it was, one of my friends went up and tried to make it stand but we had already tried and it didn't stand but he still tried to see how tall it was.

How could I write better next time? Feedback welcome.

Hope you enjoy Reading : )

Swim safety

In Te Ngahere we had a swim safety person called Tracy come in and talk about Six things that can help you stay alive if you are on a boat or when you are swimming.

Six things that keep you alive...

  • Bring swim safety tools with you just in case you get lost,
  • wear a life jacket when you are on a boat or when you are swimming,
  • Bring an adult with you if something happens,
  • Bring a electrictronic Epirb,
  • bring a parachute flare if you get lost and
  • Tell an adult where you are going how many people you are taking with you and what time you will be back.

There are all the Six things that keep you alive.

Oral Hygiene

Kia Ora, today I will be doing a blog post about Oral Hygiene DLO. In this DLO  we are writing about brushing our teeth to keep our teeth clean. I learnt that we should brush our teeth in a circle motion. I also learnt you have to brush your teeth every night and morning because it will be healthier for your teeth. What I could do better is brush my teeth in a circle motion.

Kapa haka

On September the 19, the Paihia School kapa haka group went to Kaikohe Memorial hall  to perform in the Cultural Festival. I was learning to focus on singing and facials, making sure I was smiling and doing a strong pukana. We went with parents, Teaches and teacher aids that supported us. When we went on stage I got scared because there was so much people watching us and cheering. After a couple of minutes, I didn’t have stage fright because I focused on singing. When we were doing the haka with  our rakau I made some mistakes because some of my timing was too early when we poked our rakau to the side. Once we got off the stage I was so happy because I think we all did good performing in front of other schools. SEE YOU IN THE NEXT BLOG POST.

Story beats

Today I’m writing about ‘story beats’. If you don’t know what story beats are it’s planning
how you are going to lay out your story. Here is an example of a story beat.
Once upon a time...
Every day….
Until one day...
Because of that...
Because of that...
Because of that...
Because of that...
Until finally...
And ever since then….
The moral of the story is…
The beats are like the bones of the story and then I flesh out the rest to make a body of writing.Once upon a time I opened a fortnite account. Every day I played fortnite for a long time and sometimes got frustrated. Until one day I got so angry I threw my controller. Because of that it didn’t work properly. Because of that I got more frustrated.Because of that I broke my controller more. Until finally it wouldn't work at all. Ever since then I have been asking my papa for a new controller but he knows how I broke my first one. The moral of the story is look after what you have because you might not get it again. In story beats it is easier to plan your story and write down the stuff you know and that has happened, BYE!!!

Character dimensions

Today I am writing about character dimensions. Character dimensions
are things about a person. First their appearance, how they look.
Second their history, fears and dreams. Finally who they really are;
choices, needs and desires.
For example; Appearance, “he wears a blue T-shirt, black shoes,
green jacket and he has hair all over his face”. Backstory is number
two.
To explain, my fears are spiders and heights but I don’t  want anyone
to know my weaknesses. Dimension three is their decisions, needs
and wants. Who they really are. I am going to show that by explaining
about
Mr  Twit. He thought that if he had hair he could look like a strong
man. Mr Twit doesn’t want to clean his brush. He didn’t want to ever
shave his hair on his face because he wanted to grow a lot of hair.
We are learning this because in t-shaped we had to write
about people and what we think their dimensions are. The easiest
the
part for me was writing down the description of dimension one.
The other two are much harder to work out.

Cross Country

BLOG POST Date: Monday,September 2, 2019 Writing: On Friday the 30th of August it was the School Cross Country. First thing in the morning we played and had morning tea. Then we had to go and get our stuff, like our bags, shoes and water,we had to sit down on the floor outside. We couldn’t talk because one of my teacher was calling out the kids who were going with parents helping transport children. We had to wait there for half an hour!! When we all got to Bledisloe we all put are bags on the tarp and had some food at the shelter. I got one thing to eat before the race, it was a hot dog and I was full. It was a long time waiting for my race so we ran around playing and got tired and told off. Finally when it was our time to race we got ready and a teacher counted down from three and said “Go!” We all ran around the sports field, a paddock and then up a hill to one of my teachers, Wheae Becks, and there was a sign that showed us where to turn around. We all ran down the hill faster and I hurt my ankle. It was a long way and I walked some of the track. The place that I came was seventh out of the 14 other kids. My friends Shay and Reminisce came first and second. It was a good day out.

Ned show

Yesterday there was a Ned show going on in the whare.
The Ned show was all about  growing your mindset.
Ned had some problems with learning.
There were some challenges that he had to complete.
One was to climb the tallest mountain ever which is Mount Everest.
He tried his hardest to climb up the hill and he said this is easy and
fell down Next he said this is not easy. After he said that a little Yeti
came out and he said not yet!!!!  Ned said you sound like my mother
after that he tried again and again so then he started to do two steps
forward and one step back and he did that again and again but he
changed the two step forward to three step forward and no steps
back he said this getting easy so he got some ropes and he tied them
up and throw!!!! The ropes on a piece of wood and he got all the way
up on to the mountain and he felt good. Meaning of Ned’s name

N= Never give up
E= Encourage others

D= Do your best

Cross Country - training

Hi Bloggers! For the first week back at school my class has been doing cross country training. The first time we did this I got tired very fast and my time was 8:01. The next time we did this I had improved my time a lot and it was  7:14 and that is a big achievement for me and others that have improved their time. We had been running for four days Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We had to run because it is cross country training. We had to start near the first gate by the bike shed and we ran to the pump track and we had to go over it two times and then we ran across the grass, went to the court and we went back to the bike shed and got our  time and that time was 6:49.

taken for us. The equipment that we used was paper mache, glue,
G clamp, pipe, tea towel, slingshot, drill, nerf gun, seeds, block of
wood, round piece of wood that will fit in a pipe, glove and a ice
cream container, this was so fun even working with my group
because they’re my friends and they are good friends.

Fishing

Writing. Yesterday my dad went out fishing on a boat with his friend
from work. It was their day off.
They caught ten fish, seven snapper and three trevally. They got back
in the dark and then they scaled and gutted the fish.
They gave us some fish because we looked after my sister, Maia.
This is some of the snapper, it was delicious!

Disco

Yesterday we had a disco at 6:15 and it ended at 7:30.
Me and my papa had gone to get one of my friends.
On the way their we had fun in the car talking and making up jokes.
When we got to school I got out so fast and ran in side but when I went in side there was music playing of all sorts like Old town road and other popular songs that came out early . I liked the food and the  drinks there and other stuff that we could eat.
After that stuff the juniors went first and we went last because the order was littlest to biggest.
I really enjoyed the disco because my friends were there and we danced together and we played games I liked the limbo because I went very low but one of my friends said that I had my hair touch the bamboo but I made it and we had paint on are face that glows in the dark with black lights that shines.

Infographic

Yesterday we were making an info graphic to explain the
scientific method to carry out an investigation.

I think that I have laid out my steps well so people know
what I am doing . Yesterday I learnt what a hypothesis is,
a hypothesis is something you guess . I will use this for
my science fair project.

When we were making a Digital Learning Object (DLO)
we first had to start off with a question and then we had
to research that question. Then we had to make our
hypothesis and test it. We then had to test it once or
more than once.

When we finished testing we had to make a conclusion.
