Wacky Wednesday

Kia ora, my name is Calais and I’m a year 8 from Paihia School.

Today it’s Wacky Wednesday.

Wacky Wednesday is when your wear something out of the ordinary.

Such as a dress,Skirt, and anything that looks funny.

This is a really awesome day because most of the year 8’s had dressed up,

In dresses and fairy customs, And it made sure all of the little kids had a

fun safe day. Here are some of the photos from today.

I hope you Guy will try this one time at your school or anywhere!

Have a good day!

Science

Kia ora bloggers last week my class had science fair. My groups topic was “Can you keep a cut flower alive longer in something other than water”. The liquids that we used where L&P, Sugar mixed with water, Disprin, water, Aspro Clear, and Hair spray. We also used six cups. When I was doing science I  learnt what a conclusion and a discussion mean’t, Here’s a example: Conclusion is the end of something like a story and a Discussion is like a meeting because you talking  about something, here’s a example of my groups conclusion and discussion: I embedded the example at the bottom. What I found difficult is writing out the method and writing out the evaluation. What I would do different is picking a topic that is a little bit harder because it was a really simple topic. The part that I didn’t enjoy was when my groups flowers came out of our cups, we had to restart  the next day but we knew what to do cause we did the day before. The hoe that I was usibottomng is Manaakitanga because I needed to help me and my group.

Have you ever done science experiments.

Dot plot

Kia ora Bloggers  this week my class has been learning about “dot plots”. First we had to look at a dot plot that had data of how far the children from room 1 threw a tennis ball. The thing that what I got stuck was when Room 1 throwed between 14 and 19 but the thing that I got stuck on was I thought that all the balls were landing between 10 and 20.From that we then had to describe how the data from room 1s dot plot was gathered. Something I learnt how to do was analyze and also create a dot plot. Something that was tricky for me to do in this activity was explain what I saw or found in the two classes. Someone who helped me was Wairua & Jayden who is a student in my class and math group. Down below I will link my screencastify so you can see what I’ve been doing. Have you done something like this before? Bye.

Amazing marble run.

Kia ora bloggers last week my class made some ramps for a marble run. This was really fun because we hadn't done this in a really long time. We did this to get us prepared for are science fair that was coming up. We also have to write down the scientific method next time we do this.

There where rules that we had to follow and the rules where (On competition day, you cannot touch your ramp or marble. Another team will operate the ramp, using the written instructions from your team. No verbal communication is allowed between teams during the competition)

I think the hardest part for me was to write the down the instructions because we had run out of time. The easiest part for me was to think of the design because me and my group had a good idea. Our ramp doesn’t look the best it got us lots of points, our total of points was 17.

Have you ever done this before?

Creative Technology

Kia ora bloggers, yesterday we started to finish off our wakas with Mr E. I was really excited because I hadn’t seen Mr E in two weeks. Once Mr E let us go in his class he told us all the rules and safety hazards, to remind us. The most challenging thing for me was to remember all the instructions that Mr E gave us because I would forget everything he told us what to do. The easiest part for me was cut out the word because I was very good at controlling the power tools. This was really fun but next time I need to improve my listening skills and try to remember more instructions next time. I hope you enjoyed reading this post, blog you later

Smart relationships

Kia ora bloggers, This week we have been learning about “Smart relationships”. We have been learning about this because sometimes people play online games or talk to people that they don’t know, and they tell the people their name or some private information about them self or their family. The teachers gave us a video to watch for a demo. Here is the video if you want to watch it: link.  After we watched the video we all made a DLO to show how to be safe online:Link to my DLO. I hope you enjoy reading my DLO I hope you learnt something new about talking to strangers online.

Have you ever learnt something like this before?

P.E Skill training.

Kia ora bloggers, This week Monday my Class did P.E. The activities we are going to do were Soccer, netball, Touch, and Skill games. We always do P.E on Mondays and Thursday, but the activity that I want to do is Touch because It can help me get better at touch. The hardest thing for me in soccer was to get the ball off my friends because they played more than me. The  easiest thing for me was to listen to my teacher because if we didn’t listen we had a time out from the game. The thing that I need to improve on is getting the ball off my friends and playing smarter. I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post.

Have you started P.E Rotations?

Fun Reading Test

Kia ora bloggers. Today we did a reading test and the first thing that we did was get a piece of paper off the teacher and get a pencil. Then we had to read the first instruction, the first instruction said - Read everything  carefully before you do anything.  This was very fun, plus we all learnt something about yourself. The hardest thing for me was to listen to the first instruction, because it told me what to do but I didn’t listen to the instruction. We all learnt that we couldn’t follow the directions to be successful. The easiest thing for me was to read the instructions, but I completed all the instructions going down the list. Then the teacher called us to come down on the matt and read all the instructions, but the last instruction was - now that you have finished reading everything carefully, only do sentences one and two! Then draw quietly on the back of this paper while you wait for everyone else to finish. This was really fun because we all had a laugh at the end. Blog you later.

Have you teachers ever done this to you?

Creative technology

Kia ora bloggers, yesterday we made Wakas with Mr E. I was really excited because I hadn’t seen Mr E in a very long time. Once Mr E let us go in his class he told us all the rules and safety hazards, we had to use safety Glasses and Gloves to protect your hands, and eyes. We also had to do woodworks and the most challenging thing for me was to remember all the instructions that Mr E gave us because I would forget everything he told us what to do. The easiest part for me was drawing on the piece of wood because I am good at drawing. This was really fun but next time I need to improve my listening skills and try to remember more instructions next time. I hope you enjoyed reading this post, blog you later

Coastal Seas

Kia ora bloggers, yesterday my Class watch a video of Our Planet about Sea Creatures, Oceans and the Planet. The director of the show is David Attenborough, he is an inspiring person to watch because he explains what actually happens in the Ocean. I learnt lots about the White Tipped Reef Shark and what it does, Here some facts my group & I found about the White Tipped Reef Sharks.

Facts: The White Tipped Shark are 1 of 440 species in the world. They have relentlessly kept being caught and their population reduced by 90 percent. They also let little fish called wrasse clean their teeth by plucking off the gunk.  These sharks prefer to hunt in the dark rather than the day.

We also found some facts about the Wrasse and what it does in the Ocean. Here are some facts:Wrasse are a very small fish that clean the sharks teeth. Wrasse are practically their pet; they follow the shark nearly everywhere they go. If they have the feeling that there teeth need to be cleaned they would just open their mouth and the wrasse will clean the sharks mouth. Have you ever watch David Attenborough? Heres my DLO

M.I.F Math is fun

Kia ora bloggers, Today I was learning about adding and subtracting decimals.  At first I didn’t know what to do until my teacher explained what we were doing. The main strategy was to use addition & decimals. We were allowed to use algorithms to solve the questions because it was helping my group. The best strategy for me was decimals, additions & algorithms. These are the best strategies for me because decimals helped me to solve these questions faster. The easiest part for me was to solve the question because the questions were just decimals about additions.

Have you ever used these math strategies?
